Small Change, Big Difference

Small Change, Big Difference

It’s true what they say. A small change can make a big difference. Take me, for example.

Last year I removed my car rear view mirror and since then I’ve never looked back.

Sometimes a minor adjustment like that is all you need to bring about dramatic results. Why stick to the safe and familiar, when other interesting possibilities are lurking round the corner, just waiting for you to give them a try.

Change of mindset

Nowhere is this more true than in your choice of holiday.

On your next break you might want to stay at a top resort. On the other hand you might fancy seeing more of the world and doing some travelling. So which do you choose?

Well, here’s a simple change of mindset to make that will easily resolve this dilemma.

Clever trick

Stop thinking of those two things as separate activities. Why not do both at the same time? In other words, take the resort with you on your travels.

That’s exactly the kind of clever trick 21st century cruising makes possible. Many of the recently built cruise ships are nothing less than self contained resorts. They can provide you with a full spectrum of holiday entertainment, while you’re on the move.

And there’s no shortage of options.

Astonishing

I’m thinking of floating behemoths such as Crown Princess, Celebrity Solstice, Queen Mary 2 and of course at 220,000 tonnes, currently the largest of them all, Oasis of the Seas.

Sign up for a cruise on one of these and you’ll experience all the benefits of staying in a luxury resort, while moving from one stunning destination to another.

After a cruise like this, I doubt you’ll view traditional land-based resorts in the same way again.

Personally, I find it astonishing that when tourist boards promote such resorts they employ phrases like ‘it’s beautiful’ or ‘it’s idyllic’ but fail to use that other important phrase, ‘it’s stationary’.

Circumnavigation

And here’s another cruising related change for you to consider.

Most people would love to circumnavigate the world and learn for themselves what this third rock from the sun is all about. You’re probably no different. After all, there’s a lot to see out there and ‘circumnavigate’ is a great word to use on a postcard back home.

But let’s be honest. Even if you had the funds for a trip round the world, it could be many years before you have 82 consecutive spare days in your schedule.

Well here’s a simple change that can easily fix this problem.

A word of warning

Keep the ‘circumnavigate’ part of your holiday, but replace ‘the world’ with ‘the British Isles’. All of a sudden you’ve got a package that’s both practical and affordable.

A good example of such a holiday would be Cunard’s 8-day ‘Around the British Isles’ cruise on the Queen Mary 2.

Incidentally, a relatively short cruise like this so close to home will give you a great introduction to cruising in general. But a word of warning, once you’re bitten by the bug, a new problem arises: which cruise from all the hundreds on offer should you choose next?

And talking of difficult choices . . .

Seas the opportunity

According to the latest Friday blog from James Leavey, British TV viewers face a huge dilemma on Saturday nights. Should they watch X Factor or Strictly Come Dancing? James’s solution is to merge the programmes.

Well here’s my alternative and, like everything else on this page, it simply involves a change of mindset.

Why not seize the opportunity to give both shows a miss and go on a few cruises instead? Now that the two TV series are under way there’s no time to lose. With this in mind, you might find it helpful to look at some last minute cruises.

So remember, minor adjustments can lead to dramatic results. A small change of mindset could be all that stands between you and a whole new kind of holiday experience.
