Hello children. Are you sitting comfortably? Then we’ll begin.
Once upon a time there were two children who wished they could have an Awfully Big Adventure. But times were hard and money was too tight to mention.
Then their Mummy and Daddy got this huge cheque through the post, a month after rich old Uncle Scrooge snuffed it. And the cheque didn’t bounce.
“Let’s all go on an Easter cruise,” said Mummy.
“Yippee!” screamed the the brother and the sister, for that’s what they were, while Daddy looked on, benign and bemused, by a large bottle of Champagne. The brother’s name was Owl, ‘cos of his over-large Harry Potter specs, and his sister went by the non-de-plume, Pussy-Cat, for she had just started writing a novel about love in a cattery.
Then the Owl and the Pussy-Cat went to sea
In a beautiful Easter boat,
They took some honey, and their Dad loadsamoney,
All wrapped up in a thousand pound note.
The Owl looked up at the stars above,
And sang to an acoustic guitar,
‘O lovely Pussy! O Pussy, my sis,
This is great isn’t it!
And they had a lovely time ‘cos Mummy and Daddy had selected a ship with a really good children’s programme, special children’s rates (‘Hurrah!’ cried Daddy) and a well-organised group babysitting service.
Initially, Mummy and Daddy were torn between Disney, Carnival, Celebrity, Cunard, Princess, and P&O Cruise Lines, to name but a few.
But it was worth the effort for their offspring enjoyed a very safe, crime-free cruise and lots of freedom with other children, while their parents had the holiday of a lifetime.
They did not dine on mince, or slices of quince,
Or eat with a runcible spoon;
But hand in hand, on the edge of the land,
They danced by the light of the moon,
The moon,
The moon,
And this story is over. Quite soon.
Happy Easter, girls and boys, everywhere.
And as the Easter Bunny said: take your egg and Hoppit!

As a child I remember watching a film about how they make Easter chocolate treats and halfway through being thrown out of the cinema. I hadn’t realised. It was eggs certificate.

As someone who runs training courses for bloggers I have to say this blog is a gem. Nothing bland or clichéd here. Instead it’s irreverent, quirky, funny, packed with good ideas and personal touches, wide-ranging yet focused around a single theme, written to a consistently high standard and all delivered in a distinctive voice to convey a larger than life personality.
That’s practically the Holy Grail of good blog writing.
