Disney Cruise Package Is No Fantasy

Disney Cruise Package Is No Fantasy

Next time you’re waiting for a flight or preparing to board a cruise ship and have a few minutes to kill, here’s a fun game to play. I call it Fantasy Twins.

It’s simple. Just see who in your party can come up with the most unlikely pairings of international locations. For example, you might suggest twinning Croydon with New York or East Grinstead with Rome. Then there’s Milton Keynes with Paris or perhaps Luton with LA.

Unimpressed by any of those? Well how about this one - Disney World Florida with Swindon?

A bit of a stretch

Maybe you think that’s stretching things too far. Well think again, because this pairing is no longer fantasy.

Last week it was confirmed that these two locations are officially united. For one year Swindon’s name will appear on a plaque in Disney World, as its twin town.

You could argue that Swindon has many similarities to Disney World, as the video below tries to suggest, though some people, no doubt, will want to challenge this.

Disney connection

However, in my view there’s at least one Disney connection to this remarkable Wiltshire town that cannot be lightly dismissed.

Swindon has the distinction of being home to Virgin Holidays Cruises, who have an excellent relationship with the Disney Cruise Line.

And just to prove it Virgin currently offer several Disney cruise packages with many more to come in the future.

Children travel free

A key feature of this package is that children aged 17 or under travel completely free, as long as you book two full-fare guests into the same cabin and make your booking before 2 March 2010.

Sign up for any of these four cruises on Disney Magic in April or May 2010 and you will enjoy all the onboard magic of Disney along with the excitement of visiting eight fascinating but quite different locations. These include Barcelona, Malta, Tunisia, Naples, Corsica and Villefranche in France.

All in all it’s an irresistible combination. Enjoy a 10- or 11-night Mediterranean cruise while rubbing shoulders with some of your favourite Disney characters. You can find out more here.

What about Mum and Dad?

But don’t imagine for one moment that the adults have been forgotten.

Disney have become adept at catering for all age groups, so much so that these days many couples choose to cruise with the line on their own, unencumbered by the younger generation.

In fact a Disney cruise can be the perfect solution to the age old question of how to keep the kids entertained while giving Mum and Dad a fun and stimulating holiday.

How did they do it?

And talking about questions, brings us right back to the start of this blog.

How exactly did Swindon manage to pull off this remarkable coup? It turns out that the town owes its success to Rebecca Warren, a 21-year-old customer consultant who works in a local call centre.

In October Rebecca submitted a video entry to a competition to decide which town would be awarded this honour. Her entry was so strong it beat off competition from Blackpool, Brighton and Cambridge.
