Cruising for under £300

cruising-for-under-300

There are many reasons why you might want to book a cruise costing less than £300 per person.

For instance, you might not have time to take a longer holiday. Or you may have already enjoyed a major cruise in the past 12 months and are simply looking for a less expensive mini break. Whatever your reason it’s still possible to find interesting possibilities below the £300 mark.

Another way to think of these options is as a gateway to cruising – a simple means by which newcomers can test the water.

Low cost packages

If you’re wondering whether cruising is right for you – or indeed for any other members of your party – then these low cost packages can help provide the answer without too much financial pain.

By the time you finally disembark you’ll have a pretty good idea of what cruising is all about and how well it meshes with your idea of having a decent time.

Should it turn out to be not quite your cup of tea, well little has been lost. You’ll have had the benefit of a good holiday and the satisfaction of knowing you tried something different. And perhaps best of all, you’ll now be able to hold your own in conversations with cruiser friends.

Cruising for less than £300

However, if you do discover a liking for cruising – and my money is on this being the case – a whole new world of possibilities will open up. You may never view holiday making in the same light.

So let’s take a closer look at how you might cruise for less than £300

Become an explorer on the Aurora

Believe it or not you could become a cruiser for just £239.

For such a sum you could sample the delights of cruising, courtesy of a ship which has been described as being cosmopolitan and refined, while offering “fun-filled days and a glamorous nightlife”.

This Western European cruise on the Aurora leaves Southampton on 13 October 2012 and takes you to Zeebrugge in Belgium, before bringing you home on the 15th. You’ll spend nearly 10 hours in Belgium.

That still leaves plenty of time for you to get to know the ship and its many fine features while you’re at sea.

Azura, Oceana and Ventura for under £300

If the Aurora dates don’t work for you, there are three other P&O ships offering similar packages at comparable prices. Like the Aurora they also sail during the second half of 2012.

Each one goes from Southampton to Zeebrugge and back, and will give you an excellent idea of what life is like on a modern cruise liner. The choice – in date order – is between:

Oceana: 28-30 September, £249
Ventura: 19-21 October, £259
Azura: 2-4 December, £239
Oceana: 8-10 December, £239

As always the price given is the minimum cost per person and is for an inside cabin.

Brimming with options

There are lots of things you can do with £300. But to my mind visiting another country and having access to a floating metropolis brimming with entertainment options is right up there.

There may not be the variety of itineraries that is available at higher prices, but in these times of austerity, such packages seem increasingly attractive. They represent good value for money, offering a quality holiday for a relatively minimal outlay.

Any one of these cruises would make a terrific short break in its own right, as well as a splendid introduction to the world of cruising.

And of course, if you are considering even more ambitious voyages at a later date, each of these cruises could prove a great dress rehearsal
