Today is a very special day for two reasons. Not only is the Blog one year old today, but it is also the day businesses around the country raise money for Children in Need.
At Virgin Holidays Cruises, we’re no exception.
The managers know were all a bunch of exhibitionists really so they challenged us to an interdepartmental fancy dress competition.
Each department was asked to pick a theme from which they would choose a fancy dress outfit to be judged by an external adjudicator.
- Customer Services – Children & Film Characters
- Sales Centre – Around the World
- Product – Pirates
- Accounts – Neon Ravers
- IT Support – Fairyland
- Marketing – Emergency Services
- HR – Red Devils
- Support – Charleston
To keep us full of energy for the day’s silliness, we we’re treated to a BBQ breakfast of sausages and bacon with a drop of Bucks Fizz to wash it down.
After parading around the office all morning dressed like a Lewis Carroll daydream the winners were announced. And the winning department was … customer services.
This was a really well deserved win as they did all look great.
It must be said though, the marketing department (where I work) did pull out all the stops to win but it just wasn’t enough.
We came as a police woman, surgeons, a nurse and mountain rescue. We had x-rays on the wall, wanted posters, OS maps, a crime scene and a front page of a newspaper dedicated to our bravery.
The total raised so far is £359.48, with more to come, and as for that fancy dress trophy, there’s always next year…

Yes it is. I wish they’d turn the heating on once in a while!
